RCB Backs Yash Dayal Despite IPL 2026 Absence Over Ongoing Allegations

Yash Dayal skips IPL 2026 amid allegations, with RCB confirming continued contract and support.

Yash Dayal, a pacer contracted with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), will not join the squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 season, the franchise confirmed on Tuesday. The decision comes as the 28-year-old cricketer faces serious allegations of sexual exploitation, though he continues to remain under contract with the team.

Speaking at the season-opening press conference, RCB’s Director of Cricket Mo Bobat stated that the franchise has chosen to support Dayal while also prioritizing both the player’s personal circumstances and the team’s interests. “He is going through a personal situation currently,” Bobat said, adding that the management has maintained a supportive stance and opted not to include him in the squad at this stage.

Dayal has not featured in competitive cricket since appearing in the IPL 2025 final, where RCB secured their maiden title. Despite his absence, the franchise confirmed that it had deliberately retained him, signaling continued backing during an ongoing period of uncertainty. Bobat emphasized that Dayal remains part of the team’s plans in the foreseeable future, though no timeline has been provided for his return.

The pacer is currently facing two separate allegations of sexual exploitation, including one involving a minor. While the matter has drawn significant attention, the franchise has refrained from making detailed public comments, citing the sensitivity of the situation. Bobat noted that communication with Dayal remains ongoing, and that the decision to keep him away from the squad was made in mutual consideration of all factors involved.

In terms of squad depth, RCB indicated it has sufficient pace-bowling options to compensate for Dayal’s absence. Bobat highlighted players such as Rasikh Salam, Abhinandan Singh, and Mangesh Yadav as strong candidates who have impressed during preparatory camps. He added that the team had been proactive in scouting talent ahead of the auction and remains confident in its bench strength.

However, Bobat acknowledged that losing a player of Dayal’s caliber is a setback. The pacer was among RCB’s key performers in recent seasons, including finishing as one of the joint highest wicket-takers in 2024. The franchise also expressed hope that Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will rejoin the squad soon after completing his recovery, providing further reinforcement to the bowling lineup.
