Ravindra Jadeja Joins Elite Test All-Rounders After Reaching Landmark Double In Galle
Jadeja Enters Elite Test All-Rounders Club
Ravindra Jadeja added another major milestone to his Test career on Monday, becoming only the fifth Indian bowler to reach 350 Test wickets. The all-rounder achieved the landmark during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, further strengthening his credentials as one of the most accomplished players in the format. Jadeja reached the milestone by dismissing Sri Lanka debutant Keshara Nuwantha on the third afternoon of the Test. Bowling the fourth delivery of his 17th over, Jadeja pulled his length back outside off and induced Nuwantha into attempting a cut. The ball first struck Yashasvi Jaiswal at silly point before looping towards cover, where Shubman Gill completed the catch.
Nuwantha was dismissed for two, leaving Sri Lanka at 243/7. The wicket took Jadeja to 350 Test wickets, placing him alongside an exclusive group of Indian bowlers. Before him, only Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kapil Dev and Harbhajan Singh had reached the mark for India. Jadeja’s achievement is particularly notable because his contribution extends well beyond his bowling, with more than 4,000 Test runs already to his name. The combination of 4,000-plus runs and 350 wickets puts Jadeja in a rare statistical category in Test cricket.
It reflects his unusual longevity and consistency as a player capable of making significant contributions with both bat and ball. Few players have sustained that level of production across a long Test career while also remaining a key part of their team’s fielding unit. Jadeja’s batting numbers further strengthen the argument for his status among the game’s premier all-rounders. His ability to contribute substantial runs from the middle and lower order has repeatedly provided India with depth, while his left-arm spin has made him a valuable option across different conditions. His fielding has added another dimension to his overall value.

Among Indian all-rounders, Jadeja’s career achievements now sit alongside those of some of the most influential players in the country’s Test history. Kapil Dev combined 5,248 Test runs with 434 wickets, while Ashwin finished his Test career with more than 3,500 runs and 500-plus wickets. Jadeja’s particular distinction is the balance between his batting output and his 350-wicket haul. The milestone also highlights how Jadeja has evolved throughout his Test career. Initially viewed primarily as a left-arm spin option who could contribute useful runs, he gradually established himself as a reliable Test batter.
His performances in challenging conditions have helped turn him into a central component of India’s Test side. Reaching 350 wickets also places Jadeja among a select group of international all-rounders who have combined substantial batting and bowling records. Players such as Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee and Shaun Pollock built similar reputations through sustained contributions in both disciplines, although their statistical profiles and career conditions differ.
Jadeja’s numbers alone do not establish him as the greatest Test all-rounder, a judgment that depends on factors including era, opposition, conditions, match impact and career longevity. However, the 4,000-run and 350-wicket combination provides a strong statistical basis for placing him among the most productive all-rounders of the modern era. The Galle milestone is therefore more than another entry in Jadeja’s career record. At 350 Test wickets, alongside his 4,000-plus runs, he has reached a benchmark achieved by only a handful of Indian players. His latest achievement adds further weight to the case that Jadeja belongs among the most complete all-rounders India has produced.
