Rahul Retires Hurt, Jaiswal Falls Early as India Close In on Series Win

Despite KL Rahul's painful blow, India close in on victory against West Indies in Delhi Test.

The fourth day of the second Test at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi delivered high drama as India pursued a modest 121-run target to secure a series sweep against West Indies. The chase was momentarily overshadowed when KL Rahul, struck painfully in the abdominal guard by a fiery West Indies delivery, soldiered on alongside Sai Sudharsan, guiding India to 34/1 after 10 overs in the final session. Despite losing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal early, India remained favorites to clinch their 10th consecutive Test series victory over the Windies.

Earlier, India’s bowlers wrapped up West Indies’ follow-on innings for 390, with Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah claiming three wickets apiece. The visitors showed resilience, led by centuries from John Campbell (115) and Shai Hope (103), who forged a 177-run third-wicket stand. A gritty 79-run last-wicket partnership between Justin Greaves (50 not out) and Jayden Seales (32) delayed India’s charge, but the hosts’ disciplined attack, supported by two wickets from Mohammad Siraj, ensured a manageable target.

India’s first innings total of 518/5 declared, powered by Jaiswal’s 175 and Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 129, had set the stage for dominance. However, Jaiswal’s dismissal by spinner Jomel Warrican in the chase sparked brief tension. Rahul, despite the painful blow, anchored the innings with Sudharsan, keeping India on track with over 30 overs left in the day. The match, poised for a thrilling conclusion, underscores India’s relentless pursuit of Test supremacy against a spirited West Indies side.
