PSL vs IPL: Mohsin Naqvi Says Pakistan's League Will be World Number One Soon

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi claims PSL will soon surpass IPL as cricket's top league.

Mohsin Naqvi has asserted that the Pakistan Super League is on track to surpass the Indian Premier League and become the world’s top T20 competition. Speaking during a meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Board of Governors, Naqvi highlighted the league’s rapid growth and increasing appeal among investors.

Naqvi stated that the PSL has evolved into a premier destination for investment, citing strong financial performance and growing commercial interest. The PCB also approved its audited financial statements for the 2024–25 fiscal year during the meeting, reflecting what officials described as a positive trajectory for Pakistan cricket’s flagship league.

Emphasising future ambitions, Naqvi said the PSL is “well on its way” to becoming the number one cricket league globally. He pointed to the record-breaking franchise auction ahead of the 2026 season as evidence of the league’s expanding market value and investor confidence.

While the claims signal confidence from PCB leadership, comparisons with the IPL—widely regarded as the most lucrative and popular T20 league—highlight the competitive landscape in global franchise cricket. The IPL continues to dominate in terms of revenue, viewership, and international player participation.

Separately, controversy emerged within the PSL as Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman was handed a two-match ban for alleged ball-tampering during a recent match. According to sources, match officials had been alerted to suspicious activity and later found sufficient evidence to take disciplinary action.

Zaman’s appeal against the decision was rejected by the league’s technical committee, forcing him to miss key fixtures, including a match against Multan Sultans. The incident has added a layer of scrutiny to the tournament even as the PCB continues to promote the PSL’s growth and global ambitions.
