PSL 2026 Under Threat: PCB Stands Firm as Bangladesh Seeks Government Safety Clearance

PCB confirms PSL 2026 schedule as Bangladesh seeks government approval amid regional conflict.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has dismissed concerns about overseas players pulling out of the upcoming Pakistan Super League 2026 despite rising regional tensions, confirming that the tournament will proceed as scheduled.

According to PCB officials, no foreign player—including those from Australia—has informed their respective franchises about opting out of the league. The board has already shared training schedules with all teams, with practice sessions set for March 24 and 25. The opening match will see defending champions Lahore Qalandars face Hyderabad Kingsmen at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Amid concerns over security due to tensions involving Pakistan and Afghanistan, the PCB has assured that players will receive protection equivalent to that of a head of state. Despite speculation, the board has not considered shifting the tournament to a neutral venue like the UAE, a backup option used in the past.

However, uncertainty remains around the participation of players from Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to several players, including Mustafizur Rahman and others, but has decided to seek government clearance before allowing them to travel due to safety concerns.

BCB officials stated that while players are usually cleared to participate in overseas leagues without additional approvals, the current situation requires consultation with the government to assess security risks. A final decision on their participation will depend on the government’s assessment closer to the tournament.

The PSL 2026 final is scheduled for May 3, with the PCB maintaining confidence that the competition will go ahead smoothly despite the geopolitical backdrop.
