Pratika Rawal Reflects On Enjoying Her Dream Test Debut Despite India’s Loss To Australia

Pratika Rawal scores 63 on Test debut, enjoying her innings despite India losing to Australia.

India’s young batter Pratika Rawal reflected on her dream Test debut after scoring a resilient 63 in the second innings against Australia in the one-off Test at the WACA Stadium on Sunday. Despite the pressures of playing her first match in the longest format, Rawal said she focused on enjoying her game rather than overthinking the occasion.

“That’s the beauty of this game, and I think I was not thinking that this was my first Test… this jersey is something very special to me. I carry a lot of responsibility on my shoulders,” Rawal said in a video released by BCCI Women on X. She added that she concentrated on doing what she does best, relishing the format she loves and aiming to score as many runs as possible.

Rawal also highlighted the unique challenges of Test cricket, noting that it tests a player’s patience, mindset, and character, particularly when facing world-class bowling attacks. “I’ve always said this format tests your character, patience, and mindset. When you’re playing among the best bowlers, you have to do something special,” she remarked.

Despite Rawal’s maiden half-century, India could set only a modest target of 25 runs for Australia. The Alyssa Healy-led side chased it down comfortably in just 4.3 overs, winning the match by 10 wickets.

The victory allowed Australia to seal the multi-format series 12-4, continuing their dominance across formats. For Rawal, however, the personal milestone of a fighting half-century on Test debut marks a significant moment early in her international career.

Rawal’s performance has been praised as a glimpse of her potential to handle pressure at the highest level, suggesting that she could become a mainstay in India’s batting lineup across formats. Her focus on temperament and adaptability is expected to serve her well in future Tests.
