Perth Scorchers Beat Sydney Sixers by Six Wickets to Win Sixth BBL Title
Scorchers chase down 133 to win sixth BBL title comfortably.
The Perth Scorchers clinched a record-extending sixth Big Bash League (BBL) title with a dominant six-wicket victory over the Sydney Sixers in the 2025–26 final at Optus Stadium on Sunday. Backed by a record crowd of 55,018 spectators, the Scorchers comfortably chased down a modest target to reaffirm their status as the most successful franchise in the tournament’s history.
Josh Inglis sealed the win in emphatic fashion, launching a six over long-off to finish unbeaten on 29. Perth reached the target of 132 with 15 balls to spare, underlining their control of the contest. Opener Mitch Marsh provided stability at the top with a composed 44 off 43 balls, anchoring the chase after the Scorchers were sent in to bat.
Earlier, the Sixers struggled to build momentum after losing the toss and being put in to bat. David Payne starred with the ball for Perth, claiming three wickets for 18 runs in his four overs to derail Sydney’s innings and earning the Player of the Match award. Jhye Richardson offered strong support, picking up three wickets for 32 as the Scorchers maintained relentless pressure.

Sydney’s batting lineup failed to fire in the high-stakes final, with Steve Smith, Josh Philippe, and Moises Henriques all dismissed for 24. The Sixers were eventually bowled out for 132 on the final delivery of their 20 overs, a total that proved well below par on a true Perth surface.
Smith’s dismissal was particularly significant, given his strong form throughout the tournament. The Australian Test star had been prolific in the BBL following the Ashes, scoring 299 runs at an average of nearly 60, including a century and two half-centuries. However, his lbw dismissal to Aaron Hardie halted any hopes of a late resurgence.
Reflecting on the victory, Marsh described the sixth title as “special”, crediting the long-standing cohesion within the squad. Payne echoed the sentiment, saying contributing in front of the home fans was especially satisfying. The triumph capped a memorable season for the Scorchers, while New Zealand’s Finn Allen finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 466 runs, surpassing David Warner’s previous mark.
