Palak Muchhal Confirms Smriti Mandhana–Palash Muchhal Wedding Delayed Due to Health Emergency

Wedding postponed as Smriti Mandhana’s father suffers chest pain; Palak Muchhal urges privacy for both families.

The highly anticipated wedding of Indian women's cricket star Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal, scheduled for Sunday in Sangli, has been indefinitely postponed following a sudden health emergency involving Mandhana's father, Shrinivas Mandhana. The 70-year-old businessman experienced severe left-sided chest pain—diagnosed as angina with elevated cardiac enzymes—during breakfast at the wedding venue, prompting an immediate ambulance transfer to a private hospital. Mandhana, who has been a pillar of support for her daughter's cricketing career, is currently under intensive monitoring in the ICU, with blood pressure concerns and potential angiography on the horizon if her condition deteriorates further.

Compounding the distress, Palash Muchhal was also briefly hospitalized the following day after his health faltered due to a viral infection exacerbated by heightened acidity and stress from the incident. Family sources revealed that Muchhal, deeply attached to Shrinivas, whom he regards as a father figure, was overcome with emotion and insisted on halting the ceremony before Mandhana could even voice it. Fortunately, Muchhal's condition was not critical; he received treatment and was discharged, returning to Mumbai to rest under his mother Amita Muchhal's care. His sister, singer Palak Muchhal, shared a poignant Instagram story on Monday, stating, "Due to Smriti's dad's health, Smriti and Palash's wedding has been put on hold. We request all of you to respect the privacy of the families during this sensitive time."

The postponement came after a week of joyous pre-wedding festivities in Mandhana's hometown, including mehendi and haldi ceremonies that had drawn family, friends, and teammates. Social media buzzed with excitement, amplified by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's congratulatory letter and glimpses of the couple's romance—Muchhal's stadium proposal and "SM18" tattoo. However, Mandhana swiftly removed all wedding-related posts from her Instagram, signaling the shift in priorities. Her manager confirmed to PTI that the entire program, including remaining rituals, awaits Shrinivas's full recovery, with no revised date set as of Monday evening.

Family physician Dr. Naman Shah provided a cautious update, noting that Shrinivas's vital signs are being closely watched by a multidisciplinary team, including heart specialist Rohit Thanedar. "If he makes the required progress, he could be discharged today," Shah said, adding that the family remains in constant touch. The episode underscores the emotional toll on the couple, who went public with their relationship in July 2024 after years of quiet support—Muchhal attending her matches and Mandhana crediting him for balance amid her high-pressure career.

As well-wishes pour in from the cricket fraternity and Bollywood circles, the focus remains on healing. Mandhana, fresh off leading India to the 2025 Women's Kabaddi World Cup triumph alongside her team, exemplifies resilience, but this personal setback highlights the fragility of life's milestones. Fans and well-wishers have rallied with messages of strength, hoping for a swift recovery that paves the way for the couple's union when the time is right.
