Pakistan Fans Cheer As Sahibzada Farhan Edges Closer To Fifty Against USA
Sahibzada Farhan nears a half-century as Pakistan gains control in T20 World Cup clash against USA.
Pakistan are making a strong start in their pursuit against the United States in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Group A match at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, with opener Sahibzada Farhan approaching a half-century while Saim Ayub has departed after a promising beginning.
The United States, led by captain Monank Patel, won the toss and elected to field first, aiming to exploit early conditions and restrict Pakistan's potent batting lineup. This encounter carries extra significance for Pakistan, who are seeking redemption following their shock defeat to the USA in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where the Americans pulled off a historic upset via a Super Over.
Pakistan's innings began explosively as openers Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan launched an aggressive assault on the USA bowlers. The pair raced to 54 runs in the first five overs without loss, with Farhan in particularly destructive form, smashing boundaries and sixes to accelerate the scoring rate. Farhan's aggressive strokeplay included multiple maximums and fours, pushing Pakistan past the 50-run mark swiftly and putting pressure on the American attack.

However, the USA struck back effectively through seamer Shadley van Schalkwyk, who dismissed Saim Ayub for 19 off 17 balls in the sixth over. Ayub edged a delivery to short third man while attempting an aggressive shot, providing the breakthrough the Americans needed after a challenging start. Shortly after, van Schalkwyk struck again in the same over, removing captain Salman Agha for a low score, leaving Pakistan at 56/2 and introducing some momentum shift.
Despite the quick wickets, Sahibzada Farhan remained unbeaten and continued his assault, nearing a well-constructed fifty and anchoring the innings alongside Babar Azam, who joined him at the crease. Pakistan's middle order, featuring experienced players like Babar and all-rounders Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz, will look to build on the platform provided by the openers as the match progresses in this high-stakes contest. The USA's bowlers, including veterans like Saurabh Netravalkar, will aim to tighten their lines to curb the run flow and set up a defendable target.
