Pakistan Cricket Board Recalls Rizwan And Imam-ul-Haq From England Tour

Pakistan are set to send Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq back home midway through their England tour after suffering heavy defeats in the opening two Tests. The move follows growing concerns over the team’s performances and comes as Pakistan sit at the bottom of the World Test Championship standings. Pakistan lost the first Test against England by an innings and 103 runs at Leeds before suffering another heavy defeat in the second Test at Lord’s, going down by 194 runs.

The decision to send the two experienced players home was reported after a high-level meeting involving senior officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Rizwan has struggled to make a significant impact with the bat during the series, while Imam has come under scrutiny following an injury sustained while fielding during the opening day of the Lord’s Test. The opening batter did not take part in the second Test after the injury, with questions subsequently emerging over the circumstances surrounding his absence.

According to reports, the PCB has decided that both players will return to Pakistan before the completion of the England tour. Imam’s situation has attracted particular attention following the doubts raised over his injury. The reports have also indicated that 23-year-old Abdullah Fazal, who has played two Tests, is expected to travel to England as a replacement. The changes would give Pakistan an opportunity to alter their combination as they attempt to recover from a difficult start to the series.

The PCB held a meeting involving chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed, Pakistan Super League chief executive Salman Naseer, former Pakistan player and senior selector Aaqib Javed, and limited-overs head coach Mike Hesson. The meeting took place after Pakistan’s second successive Test defeat and focused on the team’s performances and other developments surrounding the tour. The scale of the discussions reflects the concern within Pakistan cricket following the team’s poor results in England.

The meeting also reportedly discussed Hesson taking charge of the Test side for the remainder of the England tour. His continued involvement with the team could have implications for the future of head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed, with his position coming under renewed scrutiny following the defeats. Pakistan’s problems have extended beyond individual performances, with the team struggling to compete against England across the opening two Tests and facing mounting pressure to make changes before the remaining matches.

The reported departures of Rizwan and Imam would represent a significant shake-up for Pakistan as they seek to halt their losing run.
