MS Dhoni is Almost Back and CSK Fans May Not Have to Wait Much Longer

MS Dhoni is nearing full fitness, with a Thursday decision set for SRH match availability.

MS Dhoni could be on the verge of returning to action for Chennai Super Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026, with reports suggesting a final decision on his availability is imminent. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter, who has been sidelined due to a calf strain, is said to be nearing full fitness, raising hopes among fans ahead of the team’s upcoming clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18.

Dhoni has missed the first two weeks of the tournament, including key matches where his presence was widely felt. Despite expectations of his return during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, the 44-year-old did not take the field, leaving fans eagerly awaiting an update on his recovery. According to reports, Dhoni is expected to take a final call on his participation shortly before the Hyderabad fixture.

In his absence, Chennai Super Kings have shown signs of resurgence after a difficult start to the season. Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, the team bounced back from three consecutive losses with back-to-back victories against Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, reviving their campaign and climbing up the points table.

In their recent win over KKR, CSK posted a competitive total of 192/5, with Sanju Samson contributing a fluent 48 and Dewald Brevis adding a crucial 41. In response, KKR struggled to build momentum despite a brief partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, eventually falling short in the chase.

A decisive spell from Noor Ahmad turned the match in CSK’s favour, restricting KKR to 160/7. While Chennai has gained momentum with recent wins, Dhoni’s potential return could provide an additional boost in experience and leadership as the team looks to build consistency in the remainder of the tournament.
