MI Lose Hardik Pandya to Illness for Delhi Clash — Suryakumar Yadav Must Now Deliver

Hardik Pandya missed the Delhi clash due to illness, with SKY named stand-in captain.

Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the Mumbai Indians clash against the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2026 on Saturday due to illness. The match, held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, saw a late change in leadership as Pandya was unable to take the field.

In an official statement, Mumbai Indians confirmed that Pandya was unwell and would miss the fixture. “Hardik Pandya is unwell and hence will not be taking the field today. Suryakumar Yadav will be the captain today,” the franchise said, announcing a temporary shift in captaincy for the match.

Suryakumar Yadav stepped in to lead the side and walked out for the toss in place of Pandya. He reiterated the reason for the captain’s absence, confirming that the all-rounder’s illness prevented him from participating in the game. The development came shortly before the start of play, requiring a quick adjustment from the team.

Pandya’s absence is a notable setback for Mumbai Indians, given his role as a key all-rounder and leader. While the extent of his illness remains unclear, the team will be hoping for his swift recovery as the tournament progresses, with early matches playing a crucial role in setting momentum for the season.
