Matthew Hayden Tips Dinesh Karthik To Lead CSK As Stephen Fleming’s Successor Next Season

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are yet to finalise their head coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League season, and former Australia opener and CSK star Matthew Hayden has suggested an Indian candidate for the high-profile role. Hayden believes current Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) mentor Dinesh Karthik could be the “perfect” person to take charge of the five-time IPL champions.

The coaching position became vacant after Stephen Fleming ended his 18-year tenure with CSK. Fleming had been closely associated with the franchise since the early years of the IPL and played a central role in its sustained success. With the New Zealand great no longer at the helm, CSK now face the challenge of identifying a successor capable of maintaining the team's culture while overseeing a new phase for the franchise.

Several names have been linked with the position, including former England captain Eoin Morgan and former Australia and CSK batter Michael Hussey. However, Hayden believes the franchise should consider a domestic option rather than necessarily looking overseas for Fleming's replacement. He identified Dinesh Karthik as a strong candidate because of his experience in Indian cricket and his understanding of the IPL environment.
