Kylian Mbappe Receives Knee Sprain Treatment in Paris, No Surgery Needed

Kylian Mbappé undergoes treatment for a left knee sprain in Paris with no surgery planned.

Kylian Mbappé is undergoing treatment in the French capital for a knee injury, though no surgery is currently planned, according to his entourage. The France captain travelled to Paris accompanied by members of Real Madrid’s medical staff for further evaluation.

In a statement, the Spanish club confirmed that tests conducted by French specialists, under the supervision of their medical services, diagnosed a sprain in Mbappé's left knee. The forward will follow a “conservative” treatment plan aimed at recovery without surgical intervention.

Mbappé has been dealing with discomfort in the external ligament of his left knee since late 2025. He missed last week’s Champions League play-off second leg against Benfica due to persistent pain during training. Real Madrid were also without their top scorer for their recent fixture against Getafe.

His representatives emphasised that there is no disagreement between club and country over the treatment approach. The decision to prioritise rest and rehabilitation was described as a consensus between the player, coaching staff and medical teams, with the objective of ensuring a full recovery.

Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa acknowledged that Mbappe’s absence may extend beyond a few days but expressed hope that the layoff would not be prolonged. The timeline for his return remains uncertain.

Mbappé's availability for the upcoming Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City is now in doubt. The first leg is scheduled for March 11, with the return fixture on March 17.

The 27-year-old has been in prolific form this season, scoring 38 goals in 33 appearances for Real Madrid. France, meanwhile, have friendlies against Brazil and Colombia in the United States later this month and will be monitoring his fitness closely ahead of their World Cup campaign, which begins on June 16 against Senegal.
