Jasprit Bumrah Trains With Red-Ball Ahead Of Upcoming Cricket Schedule

Bumrah resumes red-ball training ahead of busy schedule.

India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has resumed red-ball training in Ahmedabad as he prepares for a packed international schedule across formats in the coming months. The pacer was seen bowling with the red SG ball during an intense practice session, signalling his readiness for upcoming assignments after a brief post-IPL break.

Bumrah shared glimpses of his training on social media, showing him bowling at full intensity while working with domestic cricketers from the Gujarat setup. He has been training at the Gujarat College ground in recent days alongside players including Chintan Gaja, focusing on rhythm and workload management ahead of a demanding season.

The Indian pacer has been rested from recent T20I assignments against Ireland and England as part of workload management. However, he is expected to return for the three-match ODI series against England beginning July 14 in Birmingham, followed by matches in Cardiff on July 16 and at Lord’s on July 19. The series will mark his return to the 50-over format after his appearance in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.

Bumrah’s recent schedule has been carefully managed, with rest periods including the one-off Test and ODI series against Afghanistan earlier this year. Despite this, he remains a key figure in India’s plans across formats, particularly in red-ball cricket where his fitness and form are considered crucial for long-term success.

Looking ahead, Bumrah is expected to play an important role in India’s upcoming Test assignments, including a two-match series against Sri Lanka scheduled from August 15 to 27 in Galle and Colombo. This will be followed by a challenging away series against New Zealand later in November as part of India’s World Test Championship campaign.

With India currently placed fifth in the WTC standings, Bumrah’s return to red-ball preparation is seen as a significant boost. Having already taken 234 wickets in 52 Tests and 149 wickets in 89 ODIs, the fast bowler remains central to India’s pace attack as the team navigates a crucial phase in the international calendar.
