Jadeja, Sundar Tons Secure India’s Dramatic Draw

India’s resilient batting frustrates England in thrilling Test draw.

India pulled off a sensational draw in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, setting the stage for a thrilling series finale at The Oval. Captain Shubman Gill’s heroic 103, alongside centuries from Ravindra Jadeja (107*) and Washington Sundar (101*), anchored India’s fightback after a precarious start, ensuring the series remains alive at 2-1 in England’s favor.

India’s second innings began disastrously, slumping to 0-2 as Chris Woakes struck twice in the opening over, following England’s imposing first-innings 669. Gill, surviving a hat-trick ball, led the recovery with a seven-hour 188-run stand with KL Rahul (90). Despite Ben Stokes’ inspired spell, including Rahul’s dismissal, India’s resilience shone through. Jadeja, dropped on nought, and Sundar forged an unbeaten 203-run partnership, frustrating England on a flat pitch.

Gill’s 722 runs this series set a new record for an Indian batter against England, surpassing Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 712. India’s 11 centuries this tour mark a historic high for a visiting side. Stokes, despite a stellar all-round performance (141 and 5-72), couldn’t force a win, hampered by apparent leg discomfort. England’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss failed to break Old Trafford’s historical trend, where no team has won doing so.

The match ended with Harry Brook’s comical bowling, as Jadeja smashed a six to reach his century, followed by Sundar’s ton. With Rishabh Pant sidelined by injury, India’s depth proved decisive. As both teams head to The Oval, an Indian victory could level the series, promising an electrifying conclusion.
