IPL 2026 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios For All Eight Contending Teams Explained

Eight teams remain in IPL 2026 playoff qualification race

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoff race has intensified dramatically, with eight teams still mathematically in contention for the four available knockout spots as the league stage enters its final phase. With multiple head-to-head clashes scheduled over the next 10 days, the qualification picture remains fluid, and net run rate is expected to play a decisive role in the final standings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) currently appear best placed to secure early qualification, with 14 points from 11 matches and a strong net run rate. The defending champions need at least one more win to move closer to safety, with 18 points widely viewed as the secure threshold. Their remaining fixtures against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) will be critical in determining whether they finish in the top four or push for a top-two finish.

Punjab Kings find themselves under pressure after suffering a four-match losing streak, despite a strong start to the season. With 13 points from 11 games, they remain in contention but face a difficult path ahead, including matches against Mumbai Indians, RCB, and SRH. Two wins from these three fixtures are likely required, with their net run rate still providing some buffer compared to other mid-table teams.

Gujarat Titans (GT), with 16 points from 12 matches, are among the most stable sides in the competition and are close to sealing qualification. Under Shubman Gill’s leadership, their consistent bowling attack and reliable top order have kept them in control of their campaign. They still have matches remaining against KKR and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which could influence top-two positioning.

SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) remain strong contenders after winning six of their last eight matches. With 14 points and a positive net run rate, they likely need at least one more win from their remaining fixtures against CSK and RCB to stay in the race. Their form surge in the latter half of the season has made them one of the most dangerous sides heading into the playoffs push.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have staged a major comeback after a poor start, winning six of their last eight matches. However, their path remains demanding, with a need to win all remaining games to ensure qualification, given the tight points spread among teams. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Delhi Capitals (DC) remain mathematically alive but face increasingly difficult scenarios, with RR and DC particularly reliant on favourable results elsewhere to progress.
