INDvsAUS T20I: India Tighten Grip as Australia Lose 3 Wickets in 4th T20I Chase

Australia reel at 76/3 after Suryakumar’s masterstroke hands Dube the ball to trap Marsh.

India gained the upper hand in the fourth T20 International against Australia in Queensland after captain Suryakumar Yadav’s tactical brilliance turned the match around. Opting for an unexpected bowling change, Suryakumar handed the ball to part-time bowler Shivam Dube—an inspired decision that resulted in the dismissal of Australia’s skipper Mitchell Marsh. At the halfway mark, the hosts were struggling at 76 for 3 in their chase of 168, with Tim David and Josh Philippe at the crease.

Earlier in the innings, India had made crucial breakthroughs to apply pressure on Australia’s batting order. Axar Patel delivered another standout performance, claiming two wickets, while Dube’s scalp of Marsh shifted momentum firmly in India’s favor. The third breakthrough came courtesy of a successful review, with a sharp DRS call by skipper Suryakumar leading to the dismissal of Matt Short. The captain’s quick thinking and aggressive rotations kept the hosts on the defensive throughout the early overs.

The Indian bowlers maintained disciplined lines, exploiting the bounce and grip in the Queensland surface. Axar’s variations troubled Australia’s middle order, while the support from Dube and Washington Sundar ensured India kept control over run flow. Australia, who began the chase confidently, faltered after losing key wickets in succession, leaving their middle order with a stiff task ahead.

Earlier, India had posted a total of 167 for 8 in 20 overs, driven by Shubman Gill’s fluent 46 off 34 balls. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Gill provided a brisk start before a middle-order collapse saw three wickets tumble in quick succession. Contributions from lower-order batters Axar Patel and Washington Sundar pushed India to a competitive total, despite tight bowling from the Australian attack.

With the five-match series balanced at 1-1 heading into this clash, both sides entered the contest with everything to play for. The winner of the 4th T20I would secure at least a series draw, adding intensity to an already thrilling contest. As the game unfolds, all eyes remain on how Australia’s middle order responds to India’s clever bowling strategy and whether Suryakumar’s bold moves continue to dictate the course of the match.
