India’s September 2026 ODI and T20I Series vs Bangladesh Officially Scheduled

Bangladesh has scheduled India’s ODI and T20I series for September 2026, pending BCCI approval.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Friday officially announced that it will host India for a white-ball series in September 2026, comprising three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). According to the BCB's media release, the ODIs are scheduled for September 1, 3, and 6, while the T20Is will follow on September 9, 12, and 13. The Indian team is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28 to prepare for the limited-overs fixtures. The venues and other logistical details are yet to be finalized.

This bilateral series comes at a time when Bangladesh's political situation remains uncertain following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government in August 2024 amid widespread protests. The country has been under an interim administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, with elections expected sometime in 2026. While the BCB has moved forward with the schedule, questions persist over whether the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will approve the tour given the prevailing security and diplomatic considerations. Bilateral cricketing ties between the two neighbors have historically been influenced by political developments.

India and Bangladesh have enjoyed competitive and frequent white-ball encounters in recent years, with both teams showing significant growth in the formats. The proposed series would provide valuable preparation for both sides ahead of future ICC events, including the 2027 ODI World Cup. For Bangladesh, hosting India remains one of their most high-profile and commercially significant assignments, drawing large crowds and boosting local cricket infrastructure. The BCB's proactive announcement reflects its intent to maintain a regular international calendar despite domestic challenges.

As of now, the BCCI has not issued any official response to the proposed dates. Cricket relations between India and Bangladesh have occasionally faced disruptions due to political tensions, but both boards have generally prioritized the continuation of bilateral series. Fans in both countries will await confirmation from the BCCI, which will ultimately decide whether the Indian team travels to Bangladesh in September 2026. The series, if it goes ahead, is expected to attract significant attention given the competitive history and passionate fan bases on either side of the border.
