India Women To Face South Africa In Major Multi-Format Cricket Assignment

The Indian women's cricket team will play a full-fledged multiformat tour of South Africa later this year after Cricket South Africa (CSA) added a three-match T20 International series to the previously scheduled Test and ODI fixtures. The revised itinerary will see the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side compete across all three formats, providing both teams with valuable preparation ahead of the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy. The tour was originally scheduled to include a one-off Test match and three One-Day Internationals. However, CSA announced on Thursday that three T20Is have been added to the schedule, making it a complete bilateral series.

The addition is expected to give players from both teams greater exposure in the shortest format ahead of the major international tournament. According to the revised schedule, the one-off Test match will be played from December 9 to 12. The ODI series will follow, with matches scheduled between December 16 and 22. After the 50-over fixtures, India and South Africa will compete in three T20 Internationals from December 26 to 30 at Benoni and Potchefstroom. Cricket South Africa said the T20I series was added to help both teams prepare for the inaugural Women's Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in February. CSA chief executive officer Pholetsi Moseki said the revised schedule would provide the Proteas Women with the ideal opportunity to prepare for the upcoming global competition.

"We are delighted to confirm the revised schedule for India's tour of South Africa, with the addition of the T20 International series over the festive period, ensuring our Proteas Women have the best possible preparation ahead of the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka early next year," Moseki said in a statement. The upcoming series will mark another important contest between two teams that have produced competitive matches in recent years. The last time India and South Africa women played a Test match was in Chennai in 2024, where both sides competed in the longest format as women's Test cricket continued to receive greater attention.

For India, the tour will offer an opportunity to test their squad strength across formats and build momentum ahead of major international assignments.
