India Desperate to Avoid Rare Series Loss – South Africa Star Says “They’ll Be Really Hungry” for Decider

South Africa’s Matthew Breetzke warns India will be “really hungry” in series-deciding 3rd ODI.

With the three-match ODI series finely poised at 1-1, South Africa’s Matthew Breetzke has issued a sharp warning: India will be “really hungry” to avoid another series defeat. After losing the preceding Test series 0-2, India faces renewed pressure to deliver in the final ODI, making Saturday’s clash a high-stakes encounter for both teams. Speaking ahead of the match, Breetzke acknowledged the quality of the Indian side and the intensity they are expected to bring to the field.

Breetzke highlighted that South Africa is aware of the challenge but remains confident in its own balance and depth. Praising the resilience shown by the Proteas’ middle and lower order in the first two games, he noted that their ability to counter India’s bowling under pressure has been a major positive. The presence of explosive all-rounders such as Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch has significantly strengthened the batting unit.

The 27-year-old emphasized that having power-hitters down the order allows the top-order batters to play with greater freedom. He explained that knowing players like Jansen and Bosch can turn the game around enables the top four to take their time and construct their innings more carefully. Breetzke also pointed out Dewald Brevis’ role as another game-changer capable of shifting momentum rapidly.

Reflecting on his own form, Breetzke credited his recent tour of Pakistan for helping him adapt to his role at No. 4. Although conditions were vastly different, he said the experience has made him more comfortable in the position. His focus now is on building consistency and contributing in crucial moments, especially in a tight series like this one.

Weather factors too could play a decisive role, as dew heavily influenced the first two ODIs in Ranchi and Raipur, favouring South Africa when batting second. Breetzke confirmed that the team is preparing strategies for both scenarios, especially if they are required to bat first. The Proteas are expected to hold discussions to fine-tune their approach and neutralize the impact of dew if conditions shift.

Meanwhile, South Africa may face potential setbacks with injuries to pacer Nandre Burger and batter Tony de Zorzi. Both players limped off during the second ODI in Raipur and have undergone scans, with their availability depending on the results. The team management stated that final decisions will be made closer to the match, adding another layer of uncertainty ahead of a crucial series decider.
