India Beat Sri Lanka by 72 Runs to Win Record-Extending Eighth Women’s Asia Cup Title

India clinched the Women's Asia Cup 2026 title with a commanding 72-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final in Dubai on Sunday, securing a record-extending eighth championship. India produced a dominant all-round performance after posting 183/5 in their 20 overs before restricting Sri Lanka with an impressive bowling display. The victory also allowed India to avenge their defeat to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final and reclaim the continental title in emphatic fashion. India's innings was built around a record 129-run opening partnership between Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma.

The pair provided India with a rapid start and laid the foundation for a challenging total. Shafali was particularly aggressive, reaching her half-century in just 24 balls before finishing with 68 runs from 39 deliveries. Mandhana also completed a well-paced fifty, reaching the landmark in 35 balls, before being run out for 59. The opening stand gave India the platform to maintain a strong scoring rate throughout their innings. After the dismissal of the two openers, the Indian batters continued to add valuable runs and took the total to 183/5 at the end of 20 overs.

The score left Sri Lanka with a difficult chase in the final and put India's bowlers in a strong position to defend the target. India's ability to combine an explosive start with contributions through the middle and late stages ensured they finished with a formidable total. Sri Lanka struggled to keep pace with the required scoring rate during their chase as India's bowling attack applied sustained pressure. Shree Charani emerged as the leading wicket-taker for India, claiming four wickets, while Deepti Sharma provided crucial support with three wickets.

The pair helped dismantle Sri Lanka's batting effort and ensured that India maintained control of the contest.
