IND vs SL LIVE SCORE, 2nd Test: Devdutt Padikkal Out For 117, India Lose 4th Wicket
Padikkal falls for 117 as India lose fourth wicket.
India’s Devdutt Padikkal scored 117 before being dismissed on Day 1 of the second Test against Sri Lanka, ending a crucial partnership as India continued to hold the advantage. Padikkal made the most of his opportunities after being given lives by the Sri Lankan fielders and converted them into his second Test century.
Padikkal’s innings helped India recover from an uneven start and strengthen their position after losing early wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were dismissed during the opening session, putting pressure on the Indian middle order. Padikkal then combined with captain Shubman Gill to rebuild the innings and add more than 100 runs.
Gill also looked set for a substantial score but was dismissed after reaching a half-century. His wicket left India three down at the tea interval, although Padikkal remained at the crease and continued to attack the Sri Lankan bowling. The left-hander eventually departed for 117, giving Sri Lanka their fourth wicket.

Keshara Nuwantha claimed the important wicket of Padikkal as Sri Lanka looked to regain control before the second new ball. The visitors had struggled to contain India's batting for significant periods, with missed chances allowing the hosts to build momentum.
The opening session also featured a tense exchange between Jaiswal and Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando. The two players were involved in a heated confrontation, with Jaiswal appearing to make physical contact with the fast bowler during the incident.
With Padikkal dismissed and India having lost four wickets, Sri Lanka will look to take further wickets with the second new ball approaching. India, meanwhile, will aim to use the remaining batting resources to build a substantial first-innings total and strengthen their position in the second Test.
