IND vs SL Galle Test: Rain Forecast Could Disrupt Multiple Days

India’s return to Sri Lanka for a Test series after nine years could begin under a cloud of uncertainty, with rain forecast for the opening Test in Galle from August 15. The match is particularly significant for India as it will mark the team’s 600th Test in the longest format. India’s preparations have already been disrupted, with rain forcing the visitors to cut short their final practice session on the eve of the match. The interruption has reduced their preparation time ahead of the opening game of the series.

Weather conditions could continue to influence the Test over the following days. The forecast for Saturday indicates cloudy and breezy conditions in Galle, with a possibility of showers. Temperatures are expected to remain around 30-31 degrees Celsius, while high humidity could make conditions feel warmer. The forecast available ahead of the match indicated a 90 per cent chance of precipitation, around 5.6 mm of expected rainfall and approximately 92 per cent cloud cover during the morning. Visibility was expected to be around five kilometres, with winds of about 20 kmph and gusts potentially reaching 43 kmph.

The weather outlook for the remainder of the Test is also not entirely favourable. Rain is forecast as a possibility on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, raising the prospect of interruptions throughout the match if the conditions persist. India will be keen to avoid losing playing time, particularly as the team begins its World Test Championship campaign. India last played a Test series in Sri Lanka in 2017, when Virat Kohli’s team completed a 3-0 series sweep. Their most recent Test in Galle ended with India recording a comprehensive 304-run victory.

The series also carries significance in the World Test Championship standings. India currently occupy fifth place with a points percentage of 48.15, while Sri Lanka are sixth with 41.67 per cent.
