ICC Rolls Out Contingency Plan as Iran Tensions Hit T20 World Cup Travel
The ICC prepares alternate travel plans for teams amid Iran conflict disruptions.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has activated contingency travel plans for players and officials involved in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 following disruption caused by the ongoing conflict involving Iran. The governing body said it is working on alternate flight arrangements to ensure safe departures for participating teams and tournament personnel.
The move comes after the United States and Israel launched a major offensive on Iran on Saturday, heightening regional tensions and affecting air travel routes. The tournament, which began on February 7 and is scheduled to conclude on March 8, features 20 teams, with six sides — including co-hosts India — still in contention for the title.
In an official statement, the ICC emphasised that the safety and well-being of everyone connected to the event remain its highest priority. The organisation said its travel, logistics and security teams have been mobilised and are working around the clock to minimise disruption and facilitate smooth returns for stakeholders once the competition concludes.

While matches in India and Sri Lanka continue as scheduled for now, the situation remains under close monitoring. The ICC indicated it will adjust plans as necessary depending on how the regional security environment and international flight operations evolve in the coming days.
