ICC Rankings Update: India Move To Third In ICC Test Rankings Behind Australia And South Africa

India rise to third in ICC Test rankings as Australia maintain top position in latest update.

The International Cricket Council’s (International Cricket Council) latest annual rankings update has reaffirmed Australia’s continued dominance in international cricket, with significant stability at the top of both the men’s and women’s standings. The update, released as part of the ICC’s yearly recalibration process, factors in all matches played since May 2025 at full weightage, while results from the previous two years are considered at 50 per cent, according to the governing body.

In the Men’s Test Team Rankings, Australia remain firmly at No. 1, extending their lead with a three-point rise to 131 rating points. Reigning World Test Champions South Africa also held steady at second place, improving slightly to 119 points. The overall top order remains largely stable, reflecting consistency among the leading Test sides during the updated cycle.

A key movement in the standings came from India, who climbed one place to third position with 104 rating points, overtaking England, now fourth with 102 points. England’s slip is attributed to the removal of older results from the ranking calculation window, including several notable series wins that had previously boosted their standing.

Further down the table, Pakistan moved ahead of Sri Lanka after benefiting from the recalibration, while teams such as the West Indies, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe completed the top 10. Notably, Ireland dropped out of the rankings due to not meeting the minimum match requirement during the rating period, alongside concerns for Afghanistan, which also need additional fixtures to remain eligible.

In the Women’s ODI Team Rankings, Australia maintained their top position despite a slight dip in rating points. England continue in second place, while India remain third. The rest of the top six stays unchanged, with South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka holding their respective positions in a stable hierarchy.

The update also saw movement just outside the top tier, with Bangladesh climbing to seventh after overtaking Pakistan. Meanwhile, both Thailand and the Netherlands dropped out of the women’s rankings due to insufficient ODI activity over the required qualification period. The ICC’s next updates will continue in the coming days, including the Men’s and Women’s T20I rankings scheduled for 5 May, followed by the Men’s ODI Team Rankings on 7 May.
