ICC Denies Venue Change for Bangladesh, Issues 24-Hour Decision Deadline

ICC turns down BCB's plea to move T20 World Cup 2026 matches out of India; Scotland may replace Bangladesh.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to shift their T20 World Cup 2026 matches from India. The decision came during an emergency ICC board meeting on Wednesday, attended by all member boards.

Out of the 12 board members, 10 voted against making any changes to the tournament schedule. The BCB has been given a 24-hour deadline to convey its final decision on whether it will participate in the tournament as scheduled.

Sources indicate that if Bangladesh maintains its stance of not travelling to India, Scotland is expected to replace them in the competition. The ICC stressed that the integrity of the T20 World Cup schedule must be maintained while ensuring fair participation for all teams.

The decision reflects the ICC’s firm position on adherence to pre-approved tournament venues and dates, despite concerns raised by Bangladesh. It also highlights the challenges of managing international cricket tournaments amid geopolitical or logistical issues.

The board’s resolution ensures that the tournament planning can continue without delays, giving other participating nations clarity on fixtures and venues. The ICC has urged Bangladesh to respond promptly to avoid further complications.

With the T20 World Cup 2026 approaching, the ICC’s deadline underscores the importance of finalising team participation to maintain tournament credibility and allow organisers to make necessary arrangements for players, venues, and broadcasters.
