Hyderabad Kingsmen Kit Dye Discolors Ball in PSL 2026 Opener

PSL match ball turned pink after jersey dye transfer.

The opening match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore gained unusual attention on social media after an unexpected on‑field anomaly turned heads: the white cricket ball, used in Twenty20 play, appeared to turn pink during the game. The bizarre incident occurred as the Lahore Qalandars faced the Hyderabad Kingsmen in the tournament’s first fixture, a match that saw Qalandars claim a convincing 69‑run victory.

Cricket fan reactions and subsequent video clips circulated widely online, suggesting that the dye from the Hyderabad Kingsmen’s jerseys rubbed off onto the ball, giving it a reddish‑pink hue as play progressed. Under standard practice, players polish the ball by rubbing it on their clothing, but such colour transfer is highly unusual at the professional level.

Social media users and cricket followers responded with sharp commentary, questioning the quality and colourfastness of the team kits. Memes and posts ranged from lighthearted jests to more critical jibes about league standards, with some comparing the spectacle to a “pink‑ball” contest — typically a feature of day‑night Test matches rather than T20 cricket.

Australian all‑rounder Marnus Labuschagne, who captained Hyderabad Kingsmen, addressed the unusual occurrence after the match. Labuschagne told reporters he had never seen colour transfer from clothing to the ball in his professional career and raised the issue with match officials during play. He expressed confidence that the franchise would address the kit issue before future games.

The incident has drawn broader scrutiny of PSL organisational and equipment standards, with critics suggesting that such kit‑related problems should be caught and resolved before tournament play begins. The league, which this year is being held with matches in Lahore and Karachi and without spectators due to logistical constraints, now faces added pressure to ensure professional quality on the field.

Despite the controversy, the inaugural PSL match proceeded to completion, with Lahore Qalandars posting 199/6 and Hyderabad Kingsmen finishing on 130 all out. Officials and franchise representatives are expected to review the matter in the coming days to prevent a repeat of the colour‑transfer issue as the tournament progresses.
