"Give Him Clarity": Parthiv Patel Urges India Management to Guide Wonderkid Sooryavanshi
Gambhir urged patience in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's cricket development journey.
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel has stressed the importance of clear communication from the Indian team management regarding teenage batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's role, saying transparency is essential as the 15-year-old continues to await his senior international debut. Although Sooryavanshi has been included in India's squads for the T20I series against Ireland and England, he is yet to feature in the playing XI of the reigning T20 World Cup 2026 champions.
Speaking on Star Sports, Parthiv said the coaching staff, led by head coach Gautam Gambhir, must ensure the youngster receives the right guidance regardless of whether he is selected to play. He said managing expectations is particularly important for a player of Sooryavanshi's age, adding that the team management should clearly explain its plans rather than leave the teenager uncertain about his prospects.
Parthiv expressed confidence that Sooryavanshi could get an opportunity later in the ongoing series against England but maintained that communication should take priority. He noted that if the youngster is not in the immediate plans, the management should inform him directly while encouraging patience and continued development. According to Parthiv, such an approach would help the promising batter stay focused without feeling sidelined.

The former India cricketer also pointed to the intense competition for places in India's T20 batting line-up. He highlighted that Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are currently ahead of Sooryavanshi in the pecking order. Parthiv noted that Samson was the Player of the Series during India's victorious T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, while Kishan is the top-ranked batter in the ICC T20I rankings and Abhishek Sharma occupies the second position, making it difficult for the teenager to break into the side immediately.
Sooryavanshi remained on the bench during India's unexpected 2-0 T20I series defeat against Ireland, further extending his wait for an international debut. The opening T20I of India's subsequent series against England was abandoned because of rain, leaving the youngster still without an opportunity to represent the senior team. With matches remaining in the series, attention will remain on whether the Indian management decides to hand one of the country's brightest young prospects his long-awaited debut.
