Former Pakistan Star Faces Trolls After Umpiring Allegation Against India

Umpiring bias claim against India draws widespread online criticism.

Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah has sparked debate with remarks suggesting that India often benefits from favourable decisions during high-profile India-Pakistan cricket matches. Speaking on the ARY Podcast alongside teammate Abbas Afridi, Khushdil discussed the unique pressure surrounding encounters between the two cricketing rivals and made allegations regarding officiating and other aspects of the contests.

During the conversation, Khushdil was asked about the intense scrutiny and emotions associated with India-Pakistan matches. He acknowledged that such fixtures carry added pressure because of the rivalry's significance but said players eventually adapt to the atmosphere. Reflecting on previous contests, he noted that Pakistan had also enjoyed success against India on several occasions.

However, Khushdil went on to suggest that key decisions often favour India during major tournament clashes. He alleged that umpiring calls, dressing-room-related decisions and even certain organisational aspects of matches tend to go India's way. The cricketer did not provide specific examples or evidence to support his claims during the interview.

“Things tend to go in their favor during matches. Umpiring decisions go in their favor, as do some dressing-room decisions, and even matches are held according to their wishes,” Khushdil said. His comments quickly attracted attention on social media, where cricket fans from both countries reacted strongly to the allegations.

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket series for more than a decade due to strained political relations. As a result, the two teams now primarily face each other during tournaments organised by the International Cricket Council and continental events, making each encounter one of the most anticipated fixtures in world cricket.

Khushdil's remarks prompted criticism and ridicule from several social media users, with many rejecting the suggestion of systematic bias in favour of India. The comments have added another chapter to the long-standing rivalry between the two nations, where discussions around officiating, scheduling and competitive balance frequently generate debate among players and supporters alike.
