Childhood Friends Vinayak Shukla and Kuldeep Yadav Set for Asia Cup 2025 Showdown
Oman’s Vinayak Shukla to face childhood friend Kuldeep Yadav in Asia Cup 2025 clash.
In a highly anticipated Group A match of the Asia Cup 2025, India’s star spinner Kuldeep Yadav will face off against his childhood friend Vinayak Shukla, now representing Oman, in a contest that promises both nostalgia and fierce competition. Shukla, a wicketkeeper-batter who left Indian cricket in November 2021 to pursue opportunities in Oman, is set to make his mark on the international stage against a formidable Indian side led by players like Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shukla’s old friend, Kuldeep.
Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s most competitive cricketing states, Shukla faced significant challenges breaking into the state team despite training alongside notable players like Upendra Yadav and Shivam Mavi. His journey took him to Bengal, where he competed against international cricketers such as Ashok Dinda, Manoj Tiwari, and Dinesh Karthik, gaining valuable experience in wicketkeeping and batting. However, limited opportunities in India prompted Shukla to relocate to Oman, where he works as a data operator for National Metal Cans while pursuing his cricketing dreams.
Shukla’s move to Oman was guided by his coach, Prakash Palande, who advised him to spend two years in Muscat with the promise of representing Oman internationally. After debuting for Oman in 2024, Shukla now finds himself living a dream, competing against cricketing giants like India and Pakistan. “Playing against India is very special,” Shukla told Times of India. “I was playing in India once, and now I’m playing for Oman—I can’t ask for more.”

A self-professed admirer of MS Dhoni, Shukla draws inspiration from the legendary Indian captain’s leadership and finishing prowess. His connection with Kuldeep Yadav, India’s standout performer in the Asia Cup 2025 with two Player of the Match awards, adds a personal layer to the upcoming encounter. Recalling their time in Kanpur, Shukla fondly remembered friendly matches where he once hit Kuldeep for a boundary, earning praise from the spinner. “We had many friendly games together,” Shukla said. “I’ll always cherish those memories.”
As Oman prepares to take on India, Shukla is both nervous and excited to test his skills against some of the world’s finest cricketers. The match represents not only a personal milestone for Shukla but also a significant moment for the Oman national cricket team, which aims to make an impact on the global stage. With fond memories of his past and a burning ambition to shine, Shukla is eager to meet Kuldeep and make the most of this rare opportunity to compete against his childhood friend and cricketing idols.
