BCCI Names India Test Squad For Sri Lanka Series; Sundar Out, Newcomer Gets Call-Up

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, with Shubman Gill set to continue as captain and KL Rahul named his deputy. The squad includes Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan, but their participation remains subject to fitness clearance from the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The squad announcement on Tuesday, July 28, brought a mix of expected selections and surprise inclusions. Washington Sundar has been ruled unavailable for the series, while Bumrah's fitness remains a concern despite being named in the squad.

Sai Sudharsan has also been included but will need to clear the required fitness assessment before being considered for selection in the playing XI. India's squad features a strong combination of experience and emerging talent as the team prepares for the two-Test assignment. Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to be part of the batting group, while wicketkeeper options include Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel. Pant's return adds significant experience to the middle order, while Jurel continues to remain a promising option behind the stumps.

The spin department will be led by senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. In the absence of Washington Sundar, India have included Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain as additional spin-bowling options. The pace attack features Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar, giving the team a varied bowling combination for different conditions. The biggest surprise in the squad is the maiden Test call-up for 33-year-old Saransh Jain. The Madhya Pradesh all-rounder has earned his first senior India selection after more than a decade of domestic cricket.

A right-arm off-spinner and left-handed batter, Jain has consistently impressed in the longer format and has been rewarded for his performances at the domestic level.
