Ayush Mhatre Scores 110* vs Vidarbha, Sets Record as Youngest Player With T20, List A, First-Class Tons

Ayush Mhatre scores 110* in SMAT, becoming the youngest player to hit centuries in all three formats.

Eighteen-year-old Mumbai opener Ayush Mhatre etched his name into cricket history on Friday, becoming the youngest player ever to score centuries across all three professional formats—first-class, List A, and T20—with a blistering unbeaten 110 off just 53 balls against Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at Ekana Stadium. At 18 years and 135 days, Mhatre surpassed the previous record held by India captain Rohit Sharma, who achieved the same feat at 19, while also eclipsing Unmukt Chand (20) and leaving global names like Quinton de Kock and Ahmed Shehzad further behind.

Mhatre’s explosive knock—laced with eight fours and eight sixes—powered Mumbai to a commanding seven-wicket victory while chasing 193, reaching the target with 14 balls to spare. Walking in after the early dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Tamore, the teenager dominated a 121-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav (35), outshining even the T20 World Cup hero before Shivam Dube finished the chase in style. It was Mhatre’s maiden T20 century at the senior level, adding to the hundreds he already had in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The achievement crowns a meteoric rise for the left-handed batter, who is already India’s Under-19 captain and was retained by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2026 IPL season as part of their youth-focused rebuild. Comparisons with a young Rohit Sharma—another Mumbai prodigy who made his mark across formats early—have grown louder, with Mhatre’s clean hitting and composure under pressure drawing praise from selectors and fans alike.

Mumbai’s dominant run in the SMAT continued with the victory, keeping them firmly in contention for a knockout spot. For Mhatre, the record-breaking ton is the latest proof that Indian cricket has unearthed a genuine multi-format superstar—one who has now officially surpassed the benchmark set by the man widely regarded as the country’s greatest white-ball opener.
