Australian Authorities Arrest David Warner for Drunk Driving; Must Appear in Court
David Warner arrested in Australia; court appearance required in Pakistan.
Australian cricket star David Warner was arrested and charged with drunk driving in Sydney on Sunday, police and media reports confirmed, drawing attention outside the sporting world as the former international batter returns to Pakistan for league cricket but must still face legal proceedings.
New South Wales Police said Warner, 39, was stopped during a random breath test in the Maroubra area of Sydney late Sunday afternoon. A roadside test indicated he was over the legal blood alcohol limit, and a subsequent breath analysis at Maroubra Police Station reportedly registered a reading of 0.104, more than twice the Australian legal limit for driving.
Warner was issued a court attendance notice in connection with the offense and must appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on May 7, 2026 to face the drink‑driving charge. Police also suspended his driver’s licence at the scene, as standard procedure under New South Wales’ traffic safety laws.

The incident occurred as Warner was playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the Karachi Kings and reportedly travelled back to Australia from Pakistan over the weekend. Despite his travel, the legal requirement to appear in court remains in force, and his court date will take place after he departs Australia again.
Warner retired from international cricket in 2024 but continues to be active in T20 leagues, including the Big Bash League and PSL. His prolific career includes hundreds of international appearances for Australia, and he remains a high‑profile figure in the sport.
Under New South Wales law, drink‑driving offenses carry penalties that can include fines, licence disqualification, and, in some cases, mandatory ignition interlock orders depending on the severity of the offense and court judgment. Warner’s upcoming court appearance will determine the legal consequences he faces for the charge.
