Australia Crowns Babar Azam ‘King’ as Sydney Sixers Announce His Arrival in Style

The Sydney Sixers unveil Babar Azam’s arrival video, sparking huge fan excitement ahead of BBL 15.

The Sydney Sixers sent social media into meltdown on Tuesday by releasing a dramatic 14-second arrival video of Pakistan superstar Babar Azam, captioned simply: “He’s arrived 👑”—instantly branding the former Pakistan captain as the undisputed “king” of their BBL|15 campaign.

In the clip, Babar walks into the Sixers dressing room in a full magenta kit, exchanges smiles with teammates, and calmly takes his seat before the screen flashes a crown emoji and the words “The King Has Landed.” Within hours, the post racked up millions of views across platforms, with Pakistani and Australian fans flooding timelines with pink hearts, goat emojis, and messages like “BBL just got its biggest superstar” and “Sydney is now Babarabad.”

Babar, signed as a pre-draft platinum overseas player, becomes the centrepiece of a Sixers side already boasting Moises Henriques, Josh Philippe, and Sean Abbott. His arrival marks his long-awaited BBL debut after years of speculation and failed attempts by multiple franchises to lure him. The 31-year-old will open the batting and is expected to play the full season, starting December 17 against the Perth Scorchers at the SCG.

For Babar, the stint offers a chance to reset after a turbulent 2025 that saw him temporarily dropped from Pakistan’s T20I side before reclaiming his place. Australian conditions suit his elegant timing and ability to bat deep—attributes that have produced 13,142 T20 runs at an average of 42.66 and a strike rate of 135.

Sixers coach Greg Shipperd called it “a dream signing”, while captain Henriques posted a photo with Babar, writing, “Welcome to the family, King.” As BBL|15 looms, one thing is clear: Sydney’s summer just got a whole lot more regal.
