Anjum Chopra Says England Conditions Suit India For Women’s T20 World Cup

Anjum Chopra backs India for Women’s T20 World Cup.

Former India captain Anjum Chopra has backed the Indian women’s cricket team to mount a strong challenge at the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, saying that conditions in England are no longer unfamiliar and that the side has the experience to compete at the highest level.

The Indian team will begin their campaign against Pakistan in Birmingham on June 14, with expectations high following recent performances and the return of key players. Chopra said the core group within the squad has already played extensively in English conditions, which removes the traditional disadvantage associated with overseas tournaments.

She noted that while a few younger players are still gaining exposure, the majority of the squad has developed familiarity through tours and franchise-based cricket experience. This, she suggested, strengthens India’s chances of entering the knockout stages and even competing for the title.

Chopra also highlighted the importance of flexibility in India’s batting order, pointing to recent performances from players such as Yastika Bhatia, who returned from injury with an impactful half-century against England. She said such form creates healthy competition but also requires the team management to remain adaptable with batting combinations ahead of a major global tournament.

The former captain observed that India’s group will be highly competitive, featuring strong teams such as Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands. With only two teams advancing to the semifinals, she stressed that consistency will be crucial throughout the group stage.

Beyond the World Cup discussion, Chopra also commented on emerging Indian talent, noting that IPL-winning captain Rajat Patidar has the ability to break into the national T20 setup, while cautioning that young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will need strong support systems to manage the pressures of early fame and media attention.
