Alyssa Healy Signs Off in Style With Victory and Unforgettable Farewell Speech
Healy retires after Australia's 10-wicket Test win, urging growth of women's Test cricket.
Australia women’s cricket captain Alyssa Healy bid an emotional farewell to international cricket after leading her side to a commanding 10-wicket victory over India in the one-off Test at the WACA Ground in Perth. The win not only secured a 12-4 triumph for Australia in the multi-format series but also marked the conclusion of Healy’s 16-year international career across formats. Speaking after the match, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter expressed pride in how the team recovered from a disappointing T20 series earlier in the tour.
Reflecting on the match, Healy praised her team’s resilience, stating that the response over the last four fixtures had been “unbelievable.” She highlighted the growth and adaptability of the players as they bounced back from earlier setbacks. The Australian captain emphasized that the Test format offers crucial opportunities for young cricketers to develop strategic and technical skills, which limited-overs formats often cannot provide, underscoring her call for the continued growth of women’s Test cricket.
Healy described the emotional impact of the farewell, admitting that it truly struck her just before addressing the team for the final time. “I’m going to enjoy the next little bit and sing the team song one last time,” she said, adding that she looked forward to seeing the team achieve “great things” under the leadership of Sophie Molineux. She also thanked fans for their overwhelming support, both at the venue and across Australia, noting how much it meant to feel that connection beyond the cricketing bubble.

Acknowledging India’s effort, Healy praised the visiting team for competing under a demanding international schedule. She highlighted the challenges faced by the Indian players, including coming off the Women’s Premier League and participating in a five-week tour. Healy extended her best wishes for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the United Kingdom, recognizing the dedication and stamina required to maintain high performance across formats.
On the field, India resumed Day 3 still trailing, with Pratika Rawal and Sneh Rana adding 27 runs before Rana was dismissed by Ashleigh Gardner. Rawal went on to score her maiden Test half-century, but India were eventually bowled out for 149. Australia needed just 25 runs to win, which they achieved comfortably in five overs, with openers Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield sealing the game, Voll finishing with three consecutive boundaries. Annabel Sutherland was the standout performer, scoring a century and claiming six wickets, earning both Player of the Match and Player of the Series honours.
Healy concluded her Test career with 502 runs in 11 matches at an average of 29, with a highest score of 99. Across limited-overs formats, she accumulated over 3,000 runs in both ODIs and T20Is, cementing her legacy as one of Australia’s greatest women’s cricketers. As celebrations wrapped up in Perth, Healy embraced teammates and support staff, ending a distinguished career with a memorable victory and a heartfelt message for the future of women’s Test cricket: “So long live Test cricket, and hopefully we can see more.”
