Aiden Markram Praises India's New-Ball Attack After Third T20I Defeat
Aiden Markram credits India's new-ball bowlers for South Africa's early collapse in third T20I defeat.
South Africa suffered a seven-wicket defeat against India in the third T20 International, with visiting skipper Aiden Markram praising India’s new-ball bowlers for their clinical performance. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana struck early, reducing South Africa to 7 for 3 inside the first four overs, leaving the visitors struggling to recover from a total of just 117.
Reflecting on the loss, Markram highlighted the challenge posed by dot balls in a low-scoring game. “They got the ball in the right areas and before you know it, you’re four, five, six down. For sure Arshdeep bowled really well. Both the new-ball bowlers bowled really well,” he said, crediting the Indian duo for executing their plans perfectly.
The South African captain acknowledged the role of conditions but stressed that adaptability remains key. He noted that despite tough conditions, low-scoring matches can be engaging and pressure-filled, requiring constant focus from both bowlers and batsmen. “It’s a tricky balance… but low-scoring games can be great to watch and real nail-biters,” Markram added.

He also discussed the difficulty of batting in tight fields, explaining how bowlers in low-scoring matches can maintain pressure with dot balls. “The fielders are always going to be tighter, and you generally end up facing a lot more dot balls than you would on a flat wicket. Each challenge is unique but part of the batting game,” he said.
India’s early breakthroughs and disciplined bowling not only ensured the win but also shifted momentum in the five-match series, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead. South Africa will now look to regroup and adapt strategies for the remaining two games to level the series.
Markram concluded by emphasizing the need for his team to learn from such situations and stay adaptable. He noted that even in low-scoring conditions, every ball counts, and executing plans under pressure remains critical to success in T20 cricket.
