Abhishek Sharma's Blazing 61 Leaves Pakistan Reeling in Asian Games Cricket Final
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer steady India at three down.
India suffered a setback in the Asian Games 2026 men's cricket final against Pakistan after Arafat Minhas dismissed Abhishek Sharma for 61 off 28 balls, giving Pakistan their third breakthrough in the gold-medal clash on Saturday. Abhishek's aggressive innings had put India in a strong position, but his departure handed Pakistan an opportunity to regain control as the Indian batting line-up looked to build another partnership.
At the time of the dismissal, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were at the crease for India, attempting to steady the innings after Pakistan's bowlers had picked up three wickets. Pakistan continued to search for further breakthroughs, with the bowling attack looking to prevent India from producing another strong partnership and setting up a challenging total.
Abhishek had provided India with a rapid scoring boost before being dismissed, striking 61 runs from just 28 deliveries. His aggressive approach put pressure on Pakistan's bowling attack and gave India momentum during the middle phase of the innings. His wicket, however, provided Pakistan with an important opening as the final entered a crucial stage.

Earlier, India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat first in the gold-medal match. India retained the same playing XI that had featured in their semi-final victory over Sri Lanka, showing no changes to the combination that had taken them into the summit clash.
The spotlight was also on 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had impressed in India's previous match against Sri Lanka with a quickfire 38 off 21 balls. His performance had added another attacking option to India's batting line-up, and he was again among the players attracting attention before the final.
The match was also taking place against the backdrop of attention surrounding the Indian and Pakistani teams, following a handshake snub between players that had already generated discussion before the contest. With the gold medal at stake, India were looking to build a strong total while Pakistan sought more wickets to shift the momentum of the final in their favour.
