Abhishek Sharma: Following Rohit Bhai's Aggressive Path for India

Abhishek Sharma follows Rohit Sharma's aggressive style for India.

India’s left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma has credited Rohit Sharma as the biggest influence behind his attacking approach at the top of the order. Speaking ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup starting on February 7, Abhishek said he is happy to shoulder the responsibility of providing explosive starts, a role long associated with Rohit’s dominance in the powerplay.

Abhishek acknowledged the pressure of filling the void left by Rohit Sharma’s consistent early impact but said the team management was clear about what they expected from him. He explained that attacking from the first few deliveries comes naturally to his game and aligns with the intent the captain and coach want him to show for India.

The young batter underlined that his role during the first six overs is well defined, even as he continues to evolve as a player. He stressed that early aggression not only helps the team build momentum but also puts opposition bowlers under immediate pressure, allowing the rest of the batting line-up to capitalise.

Abhishek also highlighted how he prepares specifically for upcoming opponents and conditions. He said his training routines are designed around the bowlers he is likely to face in the next series, with special focus on adapting to different pitches and challenges across venues in India during the World Cup.

Discussing technical adjustments, Abhishek revealed he has worked on raising his back lift to improve timing and shot flow. He noted that while his grip and high bat position remain natural, the tweak has helped him avoid being late on deliveries, especially against the new ball.

Concluding, Abhishek emphasised the importance of match simulation in practice sessions. By facing bowlers who replicate opponents and rehearsing various scenarios, he aims to stay prepared for any situation, reinforcing his belief that sustained preparation is the foundation of aggressive and successful T20 batting.
