A Glittering Tribute: Surat Jeweller Honours India’s Women Cricketers With Diamonds and Solar Energy
A Surat-based jeweller will honor India’s Women’s World Cup win by gifting diamond jewelry and solar panels to all players.
In a gesture celebrating India's triumphant victory in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025, prominent diamantaire Govind Dholakia, founder of Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), has announced plans to gift custom diamond jewellery and solar panels to the entire women's cricket team. The announcement comes on the heels of the team's historic final win over South Africa, marking a milestone in Indian women's cricket. Dholakia, a Rajya Sabha member and key figure in Surat's diamond industry, expressed profound pride in the athletes' achievements, stating that their success symbolises resilience akin to the formation of natural diamonds through intense pressure and time.
The custom jewellery pieces, currently in the design phase by SRK's team, will be tailored specifically for each team member, including stars like captain Harmanpreet Kaur, opener Smriti Mandhana, and batter Jemimah Rodrigues. SRK brand custodian Shreyans Dholakia revealed that multiple concepts are being developed, with the finest selected for presentation. "Natural diamonds are timeless, and we hope that the Indian Women's Cricket Team shines like a diamond," Shreyans told media outlets. The solar panels, meanwhile, underscore Dholakia's commitment to sustainable development, aligning with broader initiatives to promote renewable energy in rural and underserved areas.
This philanthropic move highlights Dholakia's longstanding support for women's empowerment and sports. A father and uncle to ten daughters among his five brothers' families, he has previously backed initiatives fostering gender equality. In a heartfelt letter ahead of the final, Dholakia wrote, "Winning a World Cup is not merely a sporting milestone but a symbol of what women can achieve when they believe in their own light. Their victory will inspire generations of girls to dream, to rise, and to shine." The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also rewarded the team with an Rs 51 crore cash prize, though observers note it pales in comparison to incentives for men's teams, sparking discussions on parity in women's sports funding.
