PM Modi Launches Historic Bharat Mata Coin For RSS Milestone
Narendra Modi releases historic Rs 100 coin and postal stamp celebrating RSS’s 100 years.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday unveiled a commemorative Rs 100 coin and a special postage stamp to mark the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The coin, issued by the Ministry of Culture, features the first-ever depiction of Bharat Mata on Indian currency, a move the Prime Minister described as a moment of “great pride and historical significance”.
The Rs 100 coin bears the national emblem on one side, while the reverse showcases Bharat Mata in a Varada Mudra pose, accompanied by a lion. Below her, RSS swayamsevaks are depicted bowing in reverence. The coin also carries the RSS motto, “Rashtray Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama,” which translates to “Everything is dedicated to the nation, everything belongs to the nation, nothing is mine.” The special postage stamp highlights RSS swayamsevaks’ participation in the 1963 Republic Day Parade, underlining the organisation’s presence in national life.
Addressing the gathering, Modi said the release was both a tribute to Bharat Mata and a recognition of the RSS’s century-long journey of “service, discipline, and dedication”. The centenary event was attended by RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Officials said the commemorative issue reflects both the cultural symbolism of the RSS and its role in India’s social and political fabric over the last hundred years.

Founded in 1925 in Nagpur by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the RSS has grown into one of India’s most influential socio-cultural organisations, shaping political discourse and community life through volunteer-based initiatives. Modi, who began his career as an RSS ‘pracharak’, credited the organisation for instilling in him a spirit of discipline and service before he transitioned to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which draws ideological inspiration from the Sangh.
