PM Modi Inaugurates Noida International Airport, Set To Handle 12 Million Passengers
PM Modi inaugurates Noida International Airport, strengthening NCR aviation infrastructure.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the long-awaited Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in India’s aviation expansion. The Prime Minister toured an exhibition detailing the construction journey of the airport and was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the event.
Developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the airport project has been completed with an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore, with Phase I now ready for operations. According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the airport is envisioned as a major international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR), designed to strengthen both regional and global connectivity.
Noida International Airport will serve as the second international airport for the Delhi-NCR region, complementing the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport. Together, the two airports are expected to operate as an integrated aviation network, reducing congestion, increasing passenger handling capacity, and positioning the NCR as a prominent global aviation hub.

As one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects, the facility will initially accommodate around 12 million passengers annually, with the capacity to scale up to 70 million upon full development. It features a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, advanced navigation systems including an Instrument Landing System (ILS), and modern airfield lighting to ensure efficient, all-weather, round-the-clock operations.
The airport also incorporates a comprehensive cargo ecosystem, with a Multi-Modal Cargo Hub comprising an integrated cargo terminal and logistics zones. The facility can handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of cargo annually in its initial phase, expandable to approximately 18 lakh metric tonnes. Additionally, a 40-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility has been developed, reinforcing the airport’s operational capabilities.
Designed as a sustainable and future-ready project, the airport aims to operate as a net-zero emissions facility using energy-efficient systems and environmentally responsible practices. Its architectural design draws inspiration from Indian heritage, reflecting traditional ghats and havelis while integrating modern infrastructure. Extensive security measures were implemented for the inauguration, including multiple security zones and heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel to ensure the event proceeded smoothly.
