PM Modi: BJP-NDA Will Form Tamil Nadu Government

PM Modi expresses confidence in a BJP-NDA victory in upcoming Tamil Nadu polls, while the AIADMK chief rejects any coalition.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday projected confidence that a Bharatiya Janata Party–led National Democratic Alliance (BJP-NDA) government would come to power in Tamil Nadu following the upcoming Assembly elections, even as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) reiterated its stand that it would form a government on its own without coalition partners.

Addressing his first election rally in the state, the Prime Minister highlighted the BJP-NDA’s ambitions in Tamil Nadu and appealed to voters to support the alliance, presenting it as a stable and development-orientated alternative. His remarks signalled a renewed push by the BJP to expand its footprint in the southern state ahead of the polls.

At the same time, AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami maintained that his party would secure an independent majority. He has consistently stated that an AIADMK-led government would be formed in Tamil Nadu, leaving no scope for a coalition arrangement after the election.

Senior AIADMK leaders echoed this position, asserting that the people of Tamil Nadu prefer a single-party government. They argued that the state has not witnessed a coalition government for several decades and claimed that voters have traditionally favoured clear mandates to ensure political stability.

The differing claims underscore the evolving political dynamics in Tamil Nadu as major parties and alliances position themselves ahead of the Assembly polls. While the BJP is seeking to strengthen its presence through the NDA, the AIADMK appears determined to project itself as a standalone force, setting the stage for a competitive and closely watched election campaign in the months ahead.
