Nepal Airlines Expands International Network With Guangzhou Connection

Nepal’s national carrier launches Kathmandu-Guangzhou route this Thursday.

Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) announced the launch of direct flights from Kathmandu to Guangzhou, China, marking a significant expansion of its international network. The new service, set to commence on Thursday, September 25, 2025, will connect Nepal’s capital with one of China’s major economic hubs, fostering stronger travel and trade ties.

Manoj Kumar Shah, NAC’s spokesperson, confirmed that all preparations are finalized for the Kathmandu-Guangzhou-Kathmandu route. The airline will operate three weekly flights—every Sunday, Tuesday, and Saturday—following initial services on September 25 and September 28. “This is a historic step for Nepal Airlines as we connect to a key global destination,” Shah said.

The one-way fare from Kathmandu to Guangzhou is set at NRs 30,000, with return tickets priced at NRs 50,000, offering competitive pricing for travelers. The route is expected to attract tourists, business travelers, and Nepali diaspora members, boosting connectivity between the two nations.

Nepal Airlines now joins Himalaya Airlines and China Southern, which already operate regular flights on this route. The addition strengthens Nepal’s aviation presence, with NAC now serving 11 destinations across nine countries, including India, Japan, and the Middle East.

The new flights align with Nepal’s efforts to enhance its tourism and trade sectors, particularly with China, a growing market for Nepali exports and cultural exchanges. Industry experts predict the route will stimulate economic activity, with Guangzhou’s role as a global trade hub offering opportunities for Nepali businesses.

Travelers expressed excitement on social media, with many highlighting the convenience of direct flights. “No more layovers for Guangzhou trips!” posted one user on X. The service is expected to reduce travel time and costs, making the city more accessible for Nepalis.

Nepal Airlines aims to leverage this route to strengthen its market position, competing with private carriers like Himalaya Airlines. The national carrier’s expansion reflects its commitment to modernizing its fleet and services, despite past financial challenges.
