#BiharPolls: “You’re the Real Criminal” Chirag Fires Back on Tejashwi’s 60-Day Crime Crackdown Vow
Tejashwi Yadav vows to jail all criminals within two months of Bihar gov’t formation, sparking angry political exchanges.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav intensified Bihar’s electoral rhetoric on Sunday, promising a sweeping anti-crime offensive within 60 days of the Mahagathbandhan forming government. Speaking after the arrest of Mokama strongman Anant Singh in connection with the murder of gangster-turned-politician Dular Singh Yadav, Tejashwi declared that from November 26 to January 26, “any criminal or fraud—regardless of caste or religion—will be behind bars.” He accused the ruling NDA of sheltering figures like Singh, a JDU candidate with 28 pending cases.
Tejashwi outlined a precise post-poll timeline: results on November 14, oath-taking on November 18, and a decisive crackdown commencing immediately after. He branded the current NDA regime “Maha Jungleraj,” alleging daily gunfire and unchecked criminality. Anant Singh, a five-time MLA who has switched between RJD, JDU, and Independent banners, is contesting Mokama on a JDU ticket, while his wife Neelam Devi holds the seat as an RJD MLA. The murder case has reignited long-standing rivalries in the constituency.
NDA leaders hit back swiftly. Union Minister and BJP leader Nityanand Rai labeled Tejashwi a “criminal protecting criminals,” invoking the “Jungle Raj” era under Lalu Prasad Yadav (1990–2005) marked by massacres, rapes, and land-grabbing. Rai claimed RJD ministers once harbored fugitives. BJP ally and Union Minister Chirag Paswan rejected sheltering allegations, citing Singh’s overnight arrest as proof of impartial action. “If we protected criminals, last night’s operation wouldn’t have happened,” Paswan asserted, praising Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s “neither frame nor protect” policy.

Paswan dismissed Tejashwi’s Chief Ministerial timeline as “arrogance,” predicting a record NDA majority. “A united NDA will crush Mahagathbandhan dreams,” he declared, referencing the alliance’s victory even when divided in prior elections. He called Dular Singh Yadav’s murder “sad” but vowed zero tolerance, with investigations ongoing.
As Bihar heads to the polls, the crime narrative has become a central battleground, with Tejashwi positioning the Mahagathbandhan as the antidote to “Maha Jungleraj” and NDA leaders framing RJD’s past as the original sin. The arrest of Anant Singh has only sharpened the stakes in Mokama and beyond.
