Apple Initiates Targeted Layoffs in Enterprise and Government Sales Units
Tech giant begins layoffs in corporate and government divisions.
Apple confirmed on Monday that it has initiated targeted layoffs across its enterprise and government sales divisions as part of a broader reorganization aimed at streamlining customer engagement strategies. While the company described the cuts as limited in scope, multiple sources indicate the reductions primarily affect account managers responsible for major corporate clients, educational institutions, and federal agencies.
Employees assigned to Apple’s exclusive briefing centers, where high-value clients receive private product demonstrations and strategic consultations, have also been impacted. These specialized facilities, typically reserved for Fortune 500 companies and government delegations, represent a key channel for securing large-scale contracts that often run into hundreds of millions of dollars.
The government sales unit serving agencies such as the Department of Defense and Department of Justice has been hit particularly hard, according to insiders familiar with the restructuring. The team was already navigating reduced budgets following the recent 43-day federal shutdown and spending restrictions imposed by the newly created Department of Government Efficiency under the Trump administration.

An Apple spokesperson emphasized that the company continues aggressive hiring in other areas and encouraged affected workers to apply for open positions internally. The layoffs come amid a wave of workforce reductions across the technology sector, with Verizon, IBM, and chip design firm Synopsys announcing similar cuts in recent weeks as corporations recalibrate following years of rapid post-pandemic expansion.
The move marks a rare public acknowledgment of job reductions at Apple, which has traditionally avoided large-scale layoffs compared to rivals. Industry observers note the restructuring reflects shifting priorities toward direct-to-consumer channels and subscription services, even as enterprise and government contracts remain a significant revenue pillar for the Cupertino-based giant.
