13 Killed In Himachal Pradesh After Cab Buried In Lahaul-Spiti Landslide
Landslide tragedy claims 13 lives in Himachal.
At least 13 people were killed after a passenger vehicle was buried under debris following a massive landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district on Friday. The accident occurred near Kahu-du Nala on the Udaipur-Killar route when a Tata Sumo travelling from Kullu to Pangi was struck by falling rocks and a sudden collapse of hillside debris. Rescue teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident.
According to preliminary reports, around 10 to 12 passengers were travelling in the vehicle when the landslide occurred. Visuals from the site showed the badly damaged vehicle buried under a large pile of rocks and soil. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Bir Singh. Authorities said the scale of the landslide made rescue efforts challenging.
Following the accident, teams from Tindi Police, the local administration, and emergency services reached the location to carry out search and rescue operations. One injured person was rescued safely by a police rescue team and was immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. Officials said relief operations were launched on priority as teams worked to clear debris and assess the situation.

The accident occurred after the Udaipur-Killar road had been temporarily closed on Thursday due to another landslide in the region. Passengers travelling through the route had reportedly stayed back at Tindi until the road was restored. After receiving clearance, the vehicle resumed its journey towards Pangi on Friday before the tragedy occurred.
Himachal Pradesh’s mountainous regions frequently face landslides during periods of heavy rainfall, creating challenges for transportation and emergency response operations. Authorities have been monitoring vulnerable routes and issuing advisories to travellers in affected areas. The latest incident has once again highlighted the risks posed by unstable terrain in the Himalayan region.
Police officials said rescue and relief operations are continuing, while the administration is closely monitoring the situation. Further details regarding the victims and the circumstances leading to the landslide are expected as authorities complete their assessment of the accident site.
