Trump Warns Iran: No More Patience as China Pledges Help on Hormuz

Trump demands an Iran nuclear accord while Xi signals China's willingness to mediate the Hormuz dispute.

US President Donald Trump signaled diminishing patience with Iran during an interview in Beijing, warning Tehran to move quickly toward a nuclear agreement as tensions continue following the recent conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. Trump made the remarks after a lengthy summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People, where discussions reportedly focused on regional stability, nuclear concerns, and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The interview was conducted with Fox News host Sean Hannity and aired amid heightened global concern over energy security and military escalation in the Middle East.

Trump said he would not remain patient with Iran for much longer, arguing that Tehran should agree to a deal to avoid further instability. He described Iranian officials involved in ongoing nuclear negotiations as “reasonable,” suggesting diplomatic communication channels were still active despite the tense atmosphere. At the same time, Trump maintained a hardline stance, saying any delay by Iran could invite stronger action from Washington. His comments reflected a dual-track strategy of continuing negotiations while also keeping military pressure on the table as the regional conflict remains unresolved.

Speaking about Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, Trump claimed the material was likely buried beneath facilities destroyed during the early stages of the US-Israel strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. He said the United States was closely monitoring the situation and insisted Washington knew “exactly” what was happening regarding the nuclear material. While Trump acknowledged he would prefer the uranium to be physically secured, he suggested it was not immediately necessary to retrieve it. His remarks appeared aimed at reassuring allies that the US believed Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been significantly weakened by the recent military operations.

Trump also disclosed details of his talks with Xi, saying the Chinese leader had expressed willingness to help ease tensions and support efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, Xi indicated that China wanted to see a diplomatic resolution to the crisis and was prepared to assist if needed. Trump further claimed Xi assured him that China would not provide military equipment to Iran during the conflict. The White House later stated both leaders agreed that Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons and that maritime trade routes in the Gulf should remain accessible to the international community.

Chinese state media, however, reportedly did not mention the Strait of Hormuz in its official coverage of the summit, highlighting possible differences in how both governments publicly presented the discussions. Trump noted that while China was willing to help stabilize the situation, Beijing also wanted to protect its economic interests in the region, particularly its continued access to Iranian oil supplies. China remains one of Iran’s major energy customers, making the security of Gulf shipping routes strategically important for Beijing as well as global markets.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to international sea routes, carries nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas shipments. The route has remained heavily disrupted since Iran restricted passage following the outbreak of war involving the US and Israel earlier this year. Trump said efforts were currently underway to reopen the waterway for regional countries and restore stability to global energy markets. His comments come as international leaders continue to push for diplomatic engagement while fears of a wider regional conflict remain high.
