Gadkari to Dedicate Rs 2,000+ Cr Highway Projects During Puducherry Visit

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is set to visit Puducherry on Monday to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several major infrastructure initiatives, including a Rs 436 crore elevated corridor aimed at easing urban congestion. The four-km structure will connect Indira Gandhi Square to Rajiv Gandhi Square, enhancing connectivity in the bustling coastal union territory and supporting smoother traffic flow for residents and tourists alike.

Gadkari's itinerary includes dedicating three national highway projects valued at over Rs 2,000 crore to the nation, underscoring the central government's push for robust road networks in southern India. Additionally, he will oversee improvement works on a 14 km stretch of the scenic East Coast Road, funded at Rs 25 crore, which is expected to boost safety and efficiency along this vital tourist route linking Puducherry to Chennai. These projects reflect ongoing efforts to modernise transportation infrastructure, fostering economic growth and regional integration.

A highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the 38-km four-lane Puducherry-Poondiankuppam section of National Highway 32, constructed at a cost of Rs 1,588 crore. This upgrade promises to reduce travel times, improve freight movement, and stimulate local commerce in the region. The developments align with the Modi administration's broader vision of 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India), emphasising sustainable and high-speed connectivity to drive development in union territories.
